Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Funeral Celebrant?

A funeral celebrant is a qualified person, usually from a non-clergy background, who help organise and conduct funerals, supporting the bereaved family every step of the way with the aim of celebrating the life of the person who has died.

How does a celebrant-led funeral differ from a religious funeral led by a minister or vicar?

A celebrant-led funeral will focus on the life and character of the individual that has passed away. The service will feature a eulogy or tribute that has been specially created by the celebrant that tells and celebrates the story and life of the individual. Celebrant-led funerals can be totally non-religious or contain hymns, prayers and readings if requested. Spiritual and symbolic elements may also be included. Celebrant-led funerals can be totally unique to each individual.

Where can we meet to discuss the service?

I will arrange a convenient to visit you in a safe socially distanced way. If this is not possible, we can discuss the service via the telephone or a Zoom call. Please get in touch to discuss this further.

What experience do you have?

I am qualified to conduct Funeral services and Wedding and Naming Ceremonies. I am also a Sacred Ceremonialist. Prior to this I was a Drama and English teacher for eighteen years. I also have excellent and extensive public speaking experience.

What process do you follow on the day of the funeral?

On the day of the funeral I will arrive at the venue at least 30 minutes before to ensure that everything is prepared. I will talk through the service with venue staff and handover any music cue sheets. I will then wait for you to arrive. Once the hearse has arrived, I will led the coffin into the venue and once everyone is settled and the Funeral Director has bowed to the coffin and left, I will begin the service. Once the service is complete and the exit music has started, I will bow to the coffin and quietly leave.
